Troubleshooting: Evolver Keyboard
The list below provides solutions to some of the most common tech support issues. The Evolver is a deep instrument. If you are having problems with your Evolver and suspect that operator error might be to blame, resetting the Global parameters is a good place to start. To do that, hold down the Reset button and press Oscillator 3. That sets the Global parameters back to their factory defaults. (There is no full hardware reset built in, but the factory programs are available for download if you want to get everything back to the original state.)
If one of the analog waveshapes sounds strange or if a filter is not behaving as expected, you may also want to try running the calibration routine. This is not something you should have to do regularly (or ever, really) and has no effect on the oscillator tuning. To run the calibration routine, hold down Reset and press Oscillator 2.
My Evolver Keyboard works fine and sounds great, but is not tuned to concert pitch.
The wheels need to be calibrated.
- Turn the mod wheel all the way off (down), and while also holding the pitch wheel
off, hold down RESET and press the LFO 1 switch.
- Return the pitch wheel to center, and hold RESET and press the LFO 2 switch.
- Move the Mod wheel all the way on (up), and while also holding the pitch wheel all
the way on, hold RESET and press the LFO 3 switch.
The sequencer no longer plays.
If the Evolver is set to sync to an external MIDI clock, the sequencer will not play unless a clock is present at the MIDI input. Check the MIDI Clock setting in the Global menu.
The key assignment is strange and it skips notes when I'm playing.
Make sure poly chain is turned off in the Global menu. When I poly chain my Evolver Keyboard with a Poly Evolver Rack, the voice contributed by the keyboard is louder than the four rack voices.
The output levels of the various Evolvers are optimized for the best signal to noise ratio. The monophonic Evolvers (desktop and keyboard) have hotter outputs than the polyphonic Evolvers (rack and keyboard) because, having fewer voices, they require less headroom. So if you use the Mix Input on the Poly Evolver Rack, the one voice contributed by the monophonic Evolver may be noticeably louder. We recommend using a mixer to combine and balance the outputs of the instruments.
Velocity doesn't work on the top four white keys.
This was a bug in the earliest version of the OS. Update the OS.
My Evolver Keyboard responds to MIDI program changes on other channels.
Also a bug in the earliest version of the OS. Update the OS.
